Several students have asked me which programs I would recommend to learn foreign languages.
My answer depends greatly on the student's native language, commitment, and the target language.
However, if you are interested in a general language learning framework,
I strongly recommend the Michel Thomas Method.
It is a highly systematic method that is audio based, and
if your native language is English, this is a very good place to start.
When I heard about the Michel Thomas method several years ago,
I was not interested in learning the languages that the program offered.
(French, German, Italian, Spanish etc)
However, wanting to understand the methodology, I started to listen to the German lessons.
I already knew German, so this gave me a chance to focus on the method instead of the content.
Personally, I think his framework is highly effective and teaches the basic struture
of the language exceptionally well.
Even if you are not interested in learning the languages that are offered in his course,
understanding the Michel Thomas approach would definitely provide you with an
excellent tool to learn foreign languages.
